If you've been wondering why I've been so uncharacteristically quiet of late: I've just become a dad. I can verify it's as wonderful as sources and witnesses have claimed.
Dear Colin and Sarah, I just want to tell you how much I have loved caring for your beautiful son! It has been an honor to meet you and Sarah. Congratulations-and have fun!! Linda Stowe, RN
Congrats to you and your wife on the birth of your son.
I'm 26 years removed from my own son's birth, but I can tell you that those intervening years have been both wonderful, and also fraught with adventure. They also go by very fast, so enjoy the journey as much as you can.
Parenting is something that some of us find a way to do reasonably well, and some just never quite get there. I have a sense about some of the variables of that success, but often, luck intervenes.
I am an award-winning journalist and author of American Nations, American Character, Union, Ocean's End, The Lobster Coast, and The Republic of Pirates. I'm a contributing editor at Politico and a staffer at the Portland Press Herald, where I won a 2012 George Polk Award for my investigative reporting and was named a 2016 Pulitzer Prize finalist.
Congratulations on the start of the next chapter of your life...it will be at times daunting, totally unpredictable, but as you said, truly wonderful.
